Viticultural locations and Modran soils
Nature writes the basic rules. Man directs his efforts and creates wine.
The origin of the wine is guaranteed by Wine from Modry™. Geography is guaranteed by nature.
Two locations, three soils, three processing approaches and about a million traditional varieties. All this in such a small vineyard area as Modra.
Modran slopes
Dry and poor. Stony soils are their basis.
Modran plains
Nourishing and deep. Clay and loess soils are their basis.
The parent rock in Modra is granite
Soil is indeed an important part of terroir. It has a great influence on how the vine will fare, how it will need to be addressed and what character the resulting wine will have.
Stone and gravel
The upper, i.e. active zone of the soil on the vineyard locations of the SLOPE is stony and gravelly.
This type of soil is really dry and poor.
Clay and loess soil
Clay and loess soils are a typical upper active zone of the Modran viticultural location of the PLAIN.
Unlike stone and gravel, they are nutritious and deep. Especially when it rains in front of the peeler!
Trust, but verify.
