Huncokár cemetery

The Huncokár cemetery in the local part of Modra na Piesk is a logging cemetery.

It was created near the settlement of German loggers, the so-called huncokars (chiseled German word Holzhacker), who settled in this part of Modra in the 18th century. They were skilled loggers, but they also planted new stands of forest, established ponds, burned charcoal, and finished lime. The settlement, which consisted of several estates, also included the chapel of St. Mary Magdalene.
