New Evangelical Rectory

A one-story classicist building with an L-shaped floor plan built at the end of the 19th century. Samuel Zoch worked here as a parish priest and later bishop of the Western District of the Slovak Evangelical Church in 1907 – 1927. He was at the birth of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918.

At the parish in Modra, he drafted the basic text of the Martin Declaration, by which Slovak politicians signed up for the new state. Samuel Zoch was also the first Bratislava robe. The well-known recreation facility on Pieska – Zochova chata is named after him. In the years 1928 – 1933, Dušan Fajnor, the general bishop of the Slovak Evangelical Church, also worked at the Modranská parish. The writer Martin Rázus worked here as a young evangelical chaplain in 1911 – 1912.
